Adventure Motorcycle Riders

Be Prepared When Help Might Be Hours Away...

Adventure motorcycle riding presents unique challenges that extend far beyond those encountered in everyday environments. Riders often find themselves navigating remote gravel roads, mountain passes and wilderness areas where immediate access to emergency medical services may not be possible. In these situations, the ability to assess an injured rider, make sound decisions and provide effective first aid becomes an invaluable skill.

While the principles of first aid remain the same, this course has been specifically tailored to the environments, injuries, and emergency situations adventure motorcycle riders are most likely to encounter. Rather than relying on generic workplace examples, every topic is delivered within the context of real-world motorcycle riding, helping you understand how to apply essential first aid skills when they matter most.

Facilitated by the experienced team at Alive First Aid Academy, the course combines interactive classroom learning with practical, scenario-based training. Throughout the day, you'll take part in realistic motorcycle accident scenarios that reinforce the knowledge, techniques and decision-making skills needed to respond safely, confidently and effectively during an emergency.

Whether you're an experienced adventure rider, a weekend explorer, a group ride leader or preparing for your first overland journey, this course equips you with practical emergency response skills that can help you protect yourself, assist fellow riders and provide critical care until professional medical assistance arrives.

Where Will I Attend the Motorcycle Rider First Aid Training Course?

Our Motorcycle Rider First Aid Course is hosted at Motorrad Adventures Base Camp in Honeydew, Johannesburg, and facilitated by the experienced instructors from Alive First Aid Academy.

Located on the western side of Johannesburg, our Base Camp is a purpose-built adventure rider training venue, providing the ideal environment for both classroom learning and practical, hands-on first aid training. Unlike conventional first aid courses held in an office or conference facility, you'll learn and practise your skills within the context of realistic motorcycle accident scenarios.

Throughout the day, you'll move between engaging theory sessions and practical exercises, developing the knowledge and confidence to assess an injured rider, manage life-threatening injuries and provide critical care until emergency services arrive. Every practical exercise is designed around the types of incidents adventure motorcycle riders may encounter on the road, on gravel, or in remote environments.

The venue offers secure parking, refreshments and dedicated training areas, ensuring you can focus on learning in a relaxed and professional environment.

By the end of the course, you'll leave with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond effectively when a fellow rider needs your help most, along with a certificate recognising your successful completion of this accredited Motorcycle Rider First Aid Course.

Build the Knowledge That Could Save a Life...

Theory Module

Every first aider needs a solid understanding of the principles that guide safe and effective emergency care. During the theory module, you'll develop the knowledge to assess an emergency, prioritise treatment and make informed decisions in the critical moments following a motorcycle accident, helping you understand not only what to do, but why each step is important.

During the theory module, you'll learn about:

  • The principles of first aid and the role of a first aider

  • Managing an emergency scene safely and effectively

  • Conducting a structured casualty assessment

  • CPR and life-saving resuscitation techniques

  • Managing airway obstructions and choking

  • Treating wounds and controlling bleeding

  • Recognising and managing shock and unconsciousness

  • Managing head, neck and spinal injuries

Practical Module

First aid is a practical skill that cannot be mastered through theory alone. That's why a significant portion of this course is dedicated to realistic, hands-on training, allowing you to develop the confidence and competence to respond effectively in a motorcycle-related emergency.

Facilitated by the experienced instructors from Alive First Aid Academy, you'll apply the knowledge gained in the classroom through practical exercises and realistic motorcycle accident scenarios. Working in a safe and controlled environment, you'll learn how to remain calm under pressure, assess the situation, provide appropriate care and make informed decisions until emergency medical services arrive.

In the practical module, you'll learn about:

  • Performing high-quality CPR

  • Assessing and managing an injured rider

  • Patient immobilisation techniques

  • Bandaging and dressing wounds

  • Splinting suspected fractures

  • Identifying and managing joint and muscle injuries

  • When to remove an injured rider's helmet and how to do it safely

  • Knowing when a rider's helmet should remain in place

  • Safe techniques for moving an injured rider when necessary

  • Moving a motorcycle safely to reduce the risk at an accident scene

  • Applying first aid principles during realistic motorcycle accident scenarios

Every practical exercise is designed to reinforce the skills and decision-making required in real-world adventure motorcycle emergencies, ensuring you leave the course with the confidence to respond safely and effectively when a fellow rider needs your help most.
